Final Recap

The Knights Women's Soccer Club concluded the season this week with some excellent competition.

Friday they traveled all the way the Chapel Hill, North Carolina to compete in the UNC 7v7 Soccer Tournament. The Knights faced UVA with a tie of 3-3, Auburn with a win of 3-2, Lynchburg with a win of 3-0, and UNC white, with a win of 2-0. The undefeated pool play sent the Knights into the quarterfinals where they eliminated UNC Heels 2-1. They then moved onto the Semi Finals, but lost 4-0 to reigning champions of the Pioneers, the graduate varsity players of UNC. The Knights tied for 3rd out of 20 teams, a very good showing for their first excursion to the tournament.

The Knights resumed play only a day later in the CFSL finals. Starting goalkeeper Sabrina Rivera was sidelined from a torn ACL during the UNC tournament, so defender Carlyn Topkin took her place, the first time she had ever played goalkeeper in a full sided match. Carlyn made 4 very brave saves to keep the Knights alive during the game and forward Tanya Belt was able to score a goal against the Whiskers, and graduating senior Vikki Richardson player her heart out, but the Knights were overwhelmed losing the game 4-0.

The Knights would like to sincerely thank all the fans who supported them this season, and wish graduating Senior Vikki Richardson good luck, congratulations, she will be missed!

Information on Fall try outs will be posted as soon as dates are determined.

The Close to an Amazing Season!

This past weekend the UCF women's club soccer team played in the third annual 7v7 tournament hosted by UNC-Chapel Hill. We made it all the way to the semi-finals, even with a small team and a few injured players. All games were played on the turf fields of UNC-Chapel Hill. All of the players that went really had a chance to bond with each other, and played amazing during all six of the games that we had. The ball control exhibited in these few games really showed the great potential that lies within the young players of this club team. A special thank you goes out to those that made a special guest apperance in goal: Lindsey Topetcher and Carly Topkin! They played awesome and had many amazing saves.

Saturday:
8 AM UCF v Virginia - tie 3-3
12 PM UCF v Auburn - win 2-1
4 PM UCF v Lynchburg - win 2-0
7 PM UCF v UNC-Wilmington -win 3-0

Sunday:
Quarterfinals
Central Florida 1 - UNC Heels 0 (overtime)

Semifinals
Pioneers 5 - Central Florida 0

This past Tuesday night, the club team played in the finals for CSFL against whiskers at 8 PM, with an ending result of 1-4. There were a lot of things right with this game, but we just couldn't pull it together. Even with many sore legs, and special guest Carlyn as goal keeper, the knights proved unsuccessful. Despite all this, they played amazingly well, stringing together amazing combinations and working on their passing skills. The only goal was scored by Tanya Belt.

A special thank you goes out to Nikki Richardson, the only graduating senior this semester. Thank you for everything! You were an amazing asset to the team, and you will be missed!

On to the Finals

An exciting match for the Women's Club Soccer team took place Tuesday night against Collis Roofing. The semi-final game started off strong for the Knights, with several shots on goal in the first few minutes. However a breakdown allowed an apposing player to breakaway on the side and scored putting the Knights down 0-1. Towards the end of the second half Roofing had a corner kick, which went through the fingers of guest goalie Emily Simpson to go down another goal, 0-2. With only 5 minutes left in the first half, Kimmy Westmoreland was able to cross a long ball from the right hand side to connect with graduating Senior, Vikki Richardson, with a hard shot that sped past the goalie right into the side netting, putting the Knights on the board 1-2.

The second half faired better for the Knights, and out shot Roofing for the entire half. With about 20 minutes left to go, Kimmy Westmoreland took a long throw which deflected off a Roofing player behind the goalkeeper where Tracy DiSevo could secure the goal, to tie it up 2-2. The rest of the game remained scoreless forcing the game to be decided by Penalty kicks.

The Knights won the toss to kick first and Mary Harasyn buried her first shot. Goalkeeper Emily Simpson was able to save the first shot from Roofing to put the Knights ahead 1-0. Vikki Richardson hooked her shot wide, but so did the next shooter for Roofing, so the Knights retained the lead. Tracy DiSevo capitalized on her shot, but so did Roofing after that, for a score of 2-1. Shana Weldon put away her ball as the 4th shooter, securing a lead. Collis Roofing would have to make their 4th shot in order to stay alive, but goalkeeper Emily Simpson would pull out another huge save to give the Knights the win, 3-1 in PKs.

The Knights will go on the the CFSL Tournament Finals against Whiskers, a team they beat earlier in the season, but has not been able to beat to win the CFSL final in years past. The game will be Tuesday, 8pm at Central Winds Soccer Complex.

Last game in CSFL

The Knights last game against Collis Roofing in CSFL resulted in a win by way of forfeit from the opposing team.

The knights will play Surge next Tuesday in round one of the CSFL tournament! Your continued support is greatly appreciated :)

The End of the Season

This Tuesday, the Knights played the Suncats in CSFL.

The Knights played with a lot of heart and skill, putting together some amazing plays and combinations, but were unable to finish. Tracy DiSevo scored in the first half by finishing a great cross. The final scoreboard was 1-1 but this does not nearly reflect how the game was played. From here, the knights learned some things they need to improve on, but over all our possession and skill was over the top!
